The following text is pulled from the above letter:

My name is Veronica Sanchez-Morales. I am 8 years old. I am from Miami, Florida. I heard on the news how Mr. George Floyd passed away. I was very impressed and tears came to my eyes, and I just thought, “If police are here to protect us, then why do they kill someone?” I felt sad, powerless and afraid, so then I thought I should write this letter.

I wish I could do something to stop these injustices that happen in my own country.

Racism is unacceptable in my mind, because we are all the same. It doesn’t matter where you are from, your religion, the way you look or your skin color. From my understanding, no matter what, we are all the same.

My parents have always taught me to distinguish right from wrong. And I understand that what happened in this situation was wrong. We, the kids, are the future and replacing hate for love and respect will lead us to a brighter world.

Finally, I would like to send a message to George Floyd’s daughter, Gianna:

Dear Gianna,

Even though I am far away, I would like to tell you that I send you a big, big hug, and also that your Dad is in heaven but now in peace. And you are right: your Dad changed the world.

Sincerely,

Veronica

Veronica Sanchez-Morales is an 8-year-old from Miami, Florida. She is in the second grade.
