Late night shooting is Minneapolis’ first homicide of 2012

A man was shot and killed early Saturday morning in a downtown Minneapolis hotel, according to the Star Tribune.

The shooting happened in a room at the Millennium Hotel at around 2:30 a.m. There were several witnesses, according to the article, but the reason for the shooting is still under investigation.

A male suspect fled to the Hyatt Regency hotel across the street where police took him into custody. The identity of the victim has yet to be released.

The shooting marks the first homicide in Minneapolis of 2012. In 2011 Minneapolis had 32 homicides, according to the city’s website. The first homicide in 2011 occurred on Jan. 6.
