Minnesota Flu death toll exceeds ’09-10 season

This flu season has claimed another 15 lives in Minnesota, bringing the state's death toll up to 75 so far, according to the Pioneer Press

Although this year's flu season has surpassed the 2009-2010 season, which included the H1N1 strain, Minnesota Department of Health vaccine and influenza program director Kris Ehresmann told the Star Tribune things are slowing down.

Ehresmann told the Pioneer Press "we still have a lot of influenza activity."

During the third week of January, 208 people were hospitalized with confirmed flu cases, according to the Minnesota Department of Health

The vast majority of those who have died from the flu were 65 or older, the Star Tribune reported.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention told the Associated Press that flu cases appear to be leveling off in most places nationwide, with the exception of the West, which is still rising.
