Massive manhunt for ex-police officer underway in Los Angeles

Police in Los Angeles searched for an ex-officer who is connected with several attacks against officers in the area.

The disgruntled ex-officer, Christopher Jordan Dorner is believed to have posted an online manifesto on Facebook which named and threatened to “terminate” 12 LAPD officers and their families, according to ABC News.

The nearly 10,000-member LAPD dispatched many of its officers to protect the potential targets and their families. The department also pulled officers from motorcycle duty where they could be an easier target for Dorner, who has military training, according ABC News.

In San Diego, Dorner allegedly tied up an elderly man and unsuccessfully tried to steal his boat Wednesday night, so he could flee the country to Mexico, according to the Associated Press

Dorner was terminated in 2008 for making false accusations against another officer. The AP reported that documents from a court of appeals hearing in October 2011, said Dorner was fired from the LAPD after he said that in the course of an arrest his field training officer, Sgt. Teresa Evans, kicked a suspect who was schizophrenic with severe dementia.

In the online manifesto, Dorner wrote, “Your lack of ethics and conspiring to wrong a just individual are over. Suppressing the truth will leave to deadly consequences for you and your family,” according to ABC News.

The post also implicated Dorner in the killings of Monica Quan, the daughter of a retired LAPD Police Chief, and her fiance, Keith Lawrence. The couple were found shot in their car in a parking ramp at their home on Sunday night in Irvine, according to authorities.

Quan’s father, Randal Quan, represented Dorner in front of the Board of Rights, which ruled against Dorner at the time of his dismissal, according to LAPD Capt. William Hayes.

Quan, 28, was an assistant women’s basketball coach at Cal State Fullerton. Lawrence was a public safety officer at the University of Southern California.

Police believe the Facebook post was written by Dorner because the document included details that they said only Dorner would know.
