Saint Paul woman’s body found in Columbia Heights impound lot

The body of an 18-year-old Saint Paul woman has been found hidden in a car that was towed to an impound lot in Columbia Heights, according to the Star Tribune.

Though investigators are not releasing details and have not confirmed the victim’s identity, loved ones of the victim say the woman is Brittany Clardy of St. Paul, according to Kare 11 News.

Clardy’s family reported her missing on February 11 after the recent high school graduate left her parent’s house to go to the store and did not return, reported the Star Tribune.

The body was discovered Thursday – eight days after the car was towed to the lot from an apartment complex in Brooklyn Park, according to the Anoka County Sheriff’s office.

A private towing company moved the vehicle from the apartment complex and did not see the body in the vehicle. Authorities said the body was hidden in the passenger compartment.

“How could she be in an impound lot for eight days? I think we failed as a society,” said Beth Bowman of Saint Paul. “We didn’t do due diligence in a search.”

Clardy was Bowman’s son’s favorite teacher, according to the Star Tribune.

Anoka County Detective Mike Lapham told the Star Tribune that investigators expect to have more details Sunday or Monday. Police in Brooklyn Park, Columbia Heights, Anoka County and St. Paul are investigating, according to the AP.
