Dinkytown bathroom among nation’s best

Where you go No. 2 in Dinkytown could be ranked No. 1 in the U.S.

The Varsity Theater lavatories are among 10 finalists in a contest crowning the country's best restroom, according to the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal.

Cincinnati, Ohio-based bathroom supplier Cintas Corp. sponsors the contest that has been running since 2002.

"The restroom, decorated with ornate, gilded mirrors, sassy text plates, and bricks laid as if by a drunken mason on bender, invites guests into an Alice In Wonderland-like grotto – to relieve themselves and relive childhood fairy tales," the bathroom's bio on the contest page reads.

The venue is owned and operated by Jason McLean who also owns the Loring Pasta Bar.

In 2004, Sheboygan, Wisc.'s Kohler Art Center won the prestigious acclaim, and is again in contention this year. The winner will be announced later this fall.
