Ward 3 Councilman Jacob Frey said the city will release plans next week for a hotel on the site of the Mesa Pizza building in Dinkytown, which was recently purchased by a yet-unknown developer.
Doran Companies proposed a hotel project on the same site last year, but scrapped its plans after the city ordered a historical designation study of the area.
Frey said the new owner of the parcel plans to build a hotel that may be taller than the previously proposed one.
“They’re building pretty far up,” he said.
The newest plans for a Dinkytown hotel will also do a better job keeping historical buildings intact, Frey said.
