Men’s golf senior Erik Van Rooyen will compete at the Ohio State regional May 16-18 in his third trip to the postseason.

The Gophers' No. 1 golfer this spring will compete as an individual at the Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio. A total of 13 teams and 10 individuals will compete at the regional, one of six nationwide. Van Rooyen has to post the best individual score to advance to the NCAA championships in Atlanta on May 28-June 2.

Van Rooyen tied for 19th place at the Ann Arbor regional last season and tied for 51st place as a sophomore at the San Diego regional.

He’s coming off a tie for second place at the Big Ten tournament last month. He earned second-team All-Big Ten honors last week.

The South Africa native will enter the regional with a career scoring average of 73.55, which is the eighth-lowest in program history. He has 10 career top-10 finishes, including five this season.

He will turn professional following the NCAA tournament to play in the Sunshine Tour, a PGA Tour affiliate in South Africa.
