Track: Gophers earn three All-America honors on third day

Harun Abda, Travis Burkstrand and Wally Ellenson earned All-America honors Friday to continue the Gophers' strong showing at the NCAA outdoor track and field championships in Eugene, Ore.

Abda, a senior, picked up his 13th All-America honor in his final race with the Gophers. He finished fourth in the 800 meters final, running the event in 1:47.60 — about a second behind the winner.

Burkstrand finished eighth in the 800 with a time of 1:48.24. The senior will finish his career with three All-America honors.

Ellenson, a freshman, jumped a personal-best 2.20 meters to finish eighth in the high jump. His All-America honor is the first for a Gophers high jumper since 2004.

The Gophers men enter the final day of the championships in 22nd place. They finished 16th at last year's NCAA outdoor meet and 12th at this year's NCAA indoor meet.

Laura Docherty placed 18th in the 5,000 meters as the Gophers' only woman at the championships. She ran the event in 16:24.02 to make All-America honorable mention.
