Men’s Swimming and Diving at NCAA Championships Recap — Day 2

On their second day of the NCAA Championships, the Gophers dropped in the team standings going from 18th to 22nd.

The Gophers 200-yard medley relay team of freshmen Daryl Turner, Nick Hatanaka and seniors Kyler Van Swol and Derek Toomey took 18th in preliminaries, missing the B final cut by two spots.

Freshman Jakub Maly finished in 15th place when he raced the 400-yard IM, while Van Swol finished 18th in the 100-yard butterfly.

Freshman diver Matt Barnard encountered a scary situation when he hit the diving board during a dive on the three-meter springboard. According to gophersports.com, Barnard appeared to be in good spirits while receiving medical attention.

The top three in the team standings remained the same, with Texas in first, California in second and Florida in third.
