Teague briefs Board of Regents on NCAA reform

The University of Minnesota will pay around $2,200 to cover the cost of attendance for over 300 full-scholarship athletes as part of the new NCAA autonomy rules, athletics director Norwood Teague said Friday in a presentation at the Board of Regents meeting.

Teague explained that universities — without the say of their athletic departments — set the cost of attendance. Therefore, the disparity between the cost of attendance numbers for Division I schools comes down to their tuition, room and board, fees and other totals.

He estimated that covering the cost of attendance would cost the athletics department $1 million annually.

The athletics director said Minnesota's cost of attendance total ranks in the lower third of the Big Ten.
