Zimmerman not guilty of second-degree murder, jury finds

George Zimmerman, the neighborhood watch volunteer who fatally shot Trayvon Martin last year, was found not guilty of second-degree murder and manslaughter on Saturday.

A six-woman jury acquited the Florida man, 29, after three weeks of testimony and 16 hours of deliberation. The defense succesfully argued Zimmerman acted in self-defense when he shot Martin, 17, the New York Times reported.

The jury asked for a clarification of what consitututes manslaughter earlier in the day, the Associated Press reported, but acquited Zimmerman of all charges.

After hearing the verdict, Zimmerman's attorney said his client won't feel safe, CNN reported.

"There are a percentage of the population that are angry," he said. "They're upset, and they may well take it out on him."
