Brooks Jackson, vice president for Health Sciences and dean of the UMN Medical School, discuses long-term goals for health sciences facility upgrades at a Board of Regents meeting on July 8, 2015.

University of Minnesota Medical School Dean Brooks Jackson, one of the University’s highest profile administrators, is now a finalist for the University of Iowa’s position as vice president for medical affairs and medical school dean.

Jackson is the second final candidate to take over as dean of the UI Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine.

The University of Iowa invited Jackson and the other finalist to a final round of interviews before choosing the new hire, according to a press release from University of Iowa.

The first finalist for the position is John M. Carethers, professor of human genetics and chair of the Department of Internal Medicine at University of Michigan.

Jackson, who is also a professor of laboratory medicine and pathology at the University of Minnesota, will meet with University of Iowa Health Care faculty and leadership on Monday, Oct. 9.

The visit will also include an hour-long public forum.

Jackson started at the University of Minnesota in February 2014, and his base salary is $750,411 a year.

“[Jackson] also has the skills, the experience, the intellect, the determination and the reputation to enhance the national standing of our medical school and lead the AHC,” said University President Eric Kaler in a release at the time Jackson was hired.

University of Iowa President Bruce Harreld will make a final decision and announce who was chosen later this fall, the press release said.
