UMN receives half of budget ask from state legislature

With just hours to spare in the regular session, the legislature allocated half of what the University of Minnesota requested in state funding for the next two fiscal years. The higher education omnibus bill, passed Monday, allocates the University $43.5 million beyond base appropriations — half of its $87 million ask. The bill also requests that tuition increases do not exceed 3 percent each year.

Four new faces elected to Board of Regents

Four new members of the Board of Regents at the University of Minnesota were elected by the Legislature Thursday, with lawmakers favoring diversity and new faces over incumbents. Mary Davenport and Kao Ly Her were elected to the two at-large seats while Janie Mayeron and Mike Kenyanya will take the 5th Congressional District seat and the student regent seat, respectively.

Remembering the women the world forgot

According to a report released last May by the Urban Indian Health Institute, there are more than 5,700 cases of missing and murdered indigenous women and girls in the U.S. Of those, only 116 are logged in the Department of Justice’s missing persons database.
