Gophers open season by winning two out of three

No. 21 Minnesota (2-1) began its regular season with two wins and one loss, defeating North Florida (0-2) and Central Florida in a doubleheader on Friday in Orlando, Florida before falling to Ole Miss 3-1 on Saturday. Minnesota was supposed to play George Mason on Sunday, but the game was canceled due to rain.

Gophers triumph over Northwestern in overtime

The Gophers (17-7, 6-7 Big Ten) recovered from a fourth quarter collapse to beat the Wildcats in overtime 73-64. It was the second time the teams met this season, after Minnesota beat Northwestern by a score of 61-54 just ten days ago.

The Gophers (13-3, 6-2 Big Ten) wrestling team dominated the Maryland Terrapins 45-0 Sunday, bouncing back after falling to Nebraska on Friday.

Gophers set numerous career-highs in win against Arizona State

Sophomore Shane Wiskus led the way for the Gophers, competing in four events: pommel horse, vault, parallel bars and high bar. Wiskus notched three career-highs in vault (14.800), parallel bars (14.800) and high bar (14.200), which earned him first place in each event. He also placed third in the pommel horse, scoring 13.500 for his best performance on the event since the first meet.

As the Minnesota men's basketball team looked for its first sweep over border-rival Wisconsin in a decade, poor shooting, a handful of second chance opportunities and fouls derailed the Gophers' chance for a season-sweep.

The game is beginning to slow down for Isaiah Washington

Sophomore Isaiah Washington likes to play fast. His abilities came in handy during a Jan. 30 game against Illinois, a team known for stopping their opponents' set-offenses. In his second season, the game is starting to slow down for Washington and he's found a way to make a significant impact on the court.

New men's gymnastics captains hope to lead by example

Following a second place finish at the NCAA Championships last season, the Minnesota roster went through a massive overhaul. Ten seniors departed the team, including team captains Joel Gagnon and Alex Wittenberg, making way for a youth movement as nine freshman were added to this season's team.

Senior Sadek leads an inexperienced defense

The Gophers' defensive corps is made up of five underclassmen, a pair of juniors and a lone senior — Jack Sadek. Sadek, a seventh-round NHL draft pick, has had his best statistical season with a young cast of line mates surrounding him.
