Gophers advance to Big Ten semifinal

Forward April Bockin proved Sunday why she was named the 2018 Big Ten Forward of the Year. Bockin scored the only goal in the Big Ten quarterfinal, as Minnesota (10-8-1, 6-5-1) defeated No. 21 Rutgers (11-3-5, 7-2-3) 1-0. The Gophers advance to the Big Ten semifinal on Friday.

Samedy hones skills while leading top volleyball team

It's hard to be one of the best players on one of the best teams in the nation. It should be almost impossible for an underclassman. Yet halfway through her sophomore year, opposite hitter Stephanie Samedy has carried over momentum from her promising freshman campaign and productive off-season to establish herself as one of Minnesota's premier players.

Notebook: Minnesota vs. Indiana

Minnesota will play its first and only Friday game of the season this week against Indiana. Although they are common in the non-"Power Five" football conferences, the Friday games in conferences like the Big Ten have been a source of conflict among fans, coaches and players.

Grace Zumwinkle looks to build off last season's success

When former Gophers center Caitlin Reilly injured herself last season, head coach Brad Frost put Zumwinkle on a line with center Taylor Wente and left winger Nicole Schammel. The trio of Zumwinkle, Wente and Schammel has combined to score 23 points and nine goals so far this season. Last season, Zumwinkle led Minnesota in points with 38. She and Schammel tied for the team lead in goals with 17.

Destiny Pitts looks to grow after electric freshman season

Individual awards early in her career aren't going to faze Sophomore Destiny Pitts, the reigning Big Ten Freshman of the Year. Pitts prefers to give most of the credit for the award to her teammates, among whom she is known more popularly by her last name, which doubles as her nickname.

Gophers confident in Tanner Morgan if Annexstad is unable to play

There is plenty for Minnesota fans to worry about after last week's 53-28 loss against Nebraska: The defense gave up high-yardage plays, the running game never got in a rhythm and starting quarterback Zack Annexstad was injured. However, a bright spot emerged from the struggle in Tanner Morgan.

Daily Breakdown: Gophers underdogs at home Friday

Minnesota (3-4, 0-4) hosts Indiana (4-4, 1-4) Friday night as the Gophers chase their first Big Ten win of the year. Indiana has four losses, but they have come at the hands of Ohio State, Penn State, Iowa and Michigan State — all of which have been in ranked in the top-25 this season.

Golf teams conclude fall seasons

With temperatures dropping and leaves changing colors, the fall season has officially come to an end for Minnesota's men's and women's golf teams. Both traveled to warmer climates and played their final rounds until February on Tuesday. The men's team finished ninth and the women's team finished 13th in their respective tournaments.

Minnesota splits series against Ohio State

No. 4 Ohio State (6-2-0, 3-1-0-0) defeated No. 3 Minnesota (6-1-1, 4-1-1-0) 3-2 on Saturday at Ridder Arena. Minnesota allowed three goals in a game for the first time this season. Goaltender Sydney Scobee lost her first game since joining the Gophers.

Gophers split final weekend of regular season

No. 21 Penn State (13-5-0, 9-2-0) defeated Minnesota (9-8-1, 5-5-1) 2-0 in a match between the past two Big Ten champions. Nittany Lions midfielder Kerry Abello scored twice as the Nittany Lions clinched the Big Ten regular-season title.
