Max Meyer's first career homer beats NDSU

Minnesota had another walk-off victory that almost didn't happen. Gophers' sophomore Max Meyer had to convince head coach John Anderson to let him stay in the game for another at-bat on Tuesday night after he pinch hit in the bottom of the seventh inning.

This weekend, the venue hosted a major NCAA championship for the first time when Michigan State, Texas Tech, Virginia and Auburn battled for the men’s basketball title. The national championship game is on Monday night. However, what's struck some players most isn’t the magnitude of the event, but the massive size of the venue.

Gophers take two out of three at Illinois

The Gophers' softball team traveled to Illinois over the weekend, riding a six-game winning streak and looking for their third consecutive Big Ten sweep. While the Gophers failed to complete the sweep, the team took two out of three from the Fighting Illini, boosting their conference record to 8-1.

Gophers drop Big Ten series to Michigan

Minnesota dropped its first Big Ten series of the year to Michigan (22-8 overall, 4-1 Big Ten) over the weekend. The Gophers (13-16 overall, 6-3 Big Ten) won the series opener 6-4 on Friday in Ann Arbor, Michigan with seven innings of pitching from sophomore Max Meyer. After letting up a two-run home run to Wolverines' outfielder Jesse Franklin in the first inning, Meyer didn't allow another earned run, and the Minnesota offense picked up.
