Gophers earn third-place finish at Big Five meet

Minnesota finished third at the Big Five meet in New Brunswick, New Jersey, scoring 195.150. The team competed against No. 7 Michigan, Iowa, No. 25 Penn State and Rutgers — four Big Ten teams Minnesota had not yet faced.  


Gophers qualify five for NCAA diving championships

Five Gophers' swimmers qualified for the NCAA championships. On the women's team: sophomore Sarah Bacon, sophomore Kristen Hayden and junior Morgan Justus will participate in the women's NCAA championships. Junior Alan LeBlang and junior Nick Yang will compete in the men's NCAA championships. 


Joel Gagnon and Jack Kramer bond through science

When senior Joel Gagnon was in middle school, he did a research project on Canadian astronaut Steve MacLean. Gagnon said that research project inspired him to choose aerospace engineering as his major in college. Like Gagnon, MacLean was also a gymnast.


Gophers mount comeback versus Arizona State on senior night

With the meet coming down to the final event, the Gophers needed sophomore Paige Williams to hit a floor routine that would complete Minnesota's comeback against Arizona State on Saturday night. Williams received a score of 9.900, which was enough for the Gophers (7-6, 3-4 Big Ten) to top the Sun Devils (4-7, 3-3 Pac 12) 196.675 to 196.525.


Ivy Lu is trilingual and one of the Gophers' top gymnasts

When sophomore Ivy Lu started competing for Minnesota, she said the most difficult thing for her to do was describe her techniques at practice. Lu is from Montreal, Canada. She speaks three languages: Mandarin Chinese, French and English. She was not used to training in English before coming to the University.
