Around two dozen protestors gathered on the University of Minnesota’s St. Paul campus Monday night to voice disapproval of conservative speaker Ben Shapiro.
MPD officers responded to a fight involving three men and golf clubs outside of Blarney Pub and Grill on Thursday around 10:30 p.m. MPD arrived to the scene and arrested the three men after they bailed from a vehicle. Officers identified that the vehicle was stolen by the suspects.
The National Council for Home Safety and Security ranked the University 199th in campus safety out of 243 American universities with over 10,000 students in its report released Tuesday.
A spike in robberies and relatively infrequent incidents of violent crime have occurred near the University of Minnesota since January.
Around 5:45 a.m. on Jan. 29, students, their parents and faculty members at the University of Minnesota were alerted of an incident at the Graduate Hotel. The incident turned into a 38-hour standoff between police and a man residing in the hotel. A campus emergency announcement system called SAFE-U Alerts notified students throughout the standoff until it ended in the afternoon on Jan. 30.
A University student was robbed at gunpoint at around 10 p.m. on Sunday. The crime occurred on the 600 block of 13th Avenue Southeast near Target Express in Dinkytown. The suspect demanded valuables from the student, and struck her with the butt of the gun until she surrendered her belongings.
The restaurant will take over the former spot of ProCuts and plans to have late-night hours on weekends.
UMPD is increasing staff at all Super Bowl events hosted by the University, including the Startup Capital of the North Showcase in McNamara Alumni Center, Man of the Year Fan Forum at Northrop Auditorium and the NFL Honors show, said UMPD Lieutenant Chuck Miner.
