Moving Forwards

Seven games into the season, the Gophers are still experimenting with who will be playing in their frontcourt this year.   Two newcomers to the team, sophomore center Jessie Edwards and junior center Karley Barnes, have started four and two games for Minnesota, respectively.


Wagner showing progress for Minnesota

Carlie Wagner was forced to grow quickly as a freshman after the Gophers lost Rachel Banham due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament in her knee in the 10th game of the season.   Wagner played in all 33 games for Minnesota in her first year on campus, starting in 28 of them.

When Rachel Banham pictured breaking Minnesota’s all-time scoring record, she said she imagined Williams Arena full of fans standing and cheering.   Instead, the Gophers redshirt senior guard broke the record with Minnesota down by 13 points against Auburn in a largely empty arena in the San Juan Shootout in Puerto Rico


Gophers split Puerto Rico series

Redshirt senior guard Rachel Banham broke Minnesota’s career scoring record Saturday as the Gophers lost to Auburn University 81-79 in overtime in their second game of the San Juan Shootout.


Gophers beat Kent State

The Gophers women’s basketball team trailed by two points with just over nine minutes left in the game against Kent State, but the team outscored the Flashes 31-17 in the final quarter to secure a 85-73 victory Tuesday night. Minnesota (3-0) took a 13-point lead after the first quarter but was outscored 25-13 and 15-12 by Kent State in the second and third quarters, respectively. The Gophers adjusted prior to the fourth quarter and scored 22 points in the paint after Kent State’s defense focused on limiting three-pointers.


Banham nears program scoring record

Gophers redshirt senior guard Rachel Banham is expected to break the program’s career scoring record within the team’s three road games this week. Banham needs 55 points to break the record of 2,286 points, set by former Gophers and current Minnesota Lynx guard Lindsay Whalen.


Gophers score their way to victory

The Gophers women’s basketball team’s new four-guard lineup was successful for the second time this season as Minnesota beat Maine 91-64 on Friday at Williams Arena.
