New MSA initiative plans to bring fresh food to UMN campus

The Minnesota Student Association will launch a new fresh food initiative at the University of Minnesota this fall. Students can register for the Gopher Community Supported Agriculture Program this semester and have weekly boxes of fresh produce delivered to them for a six-week period during the fall.


Mesa Pizza, Sssdude-Nutz closed Thursday for 'Day Without Immigrants' protest

A handful of University of Minnesota-area businesses have closed Thursday to show support for a nationwide ‘Day Without Immigrants’ protest. The daylong protest calls for immigrants not to go to work, open their businesses or spend their money, and is in response to President Donald Trump’s immigration agenda, which includes his U.S.-Mexico border wall plan and his now-stalled travel ban.


Interfraternity Council raise funds for UMN cancer research

About 300 participants gathered at Ridder Arena Saturday for the Interfraternity Council’s third annual hockey-broomball tournament to raise funds for University of Minnesota medical research. The IFC expects a larger donation this year compared to years past because of a new charitable body created in 2016 — Lakes and Legends Foundation — which allows the IFC to donate all proceeds to the University. Previously, the IFC’s fundraisers were held in partnership with greek event planning company, Collegiate Charities, which claimed 30 percent of the proceeds. The money raised from Saturday’s tournament will fund research for pediatric cancer — the deadliest children’s disease in the United States — at the University’s Masonic Children’s Hospital.


UMPD timely warnings will now include contact info for Aurora Center

This semester, contact information for the Aurora Center has been added to all University of Minnesota Police Department timely warnings. After the Minnesota Student Association pushed for the change, University Services added the information to the alerts, which UMPD emails to students, faculty and staff following crimes on or near campus.


Tina Marisam takes over as Title IX coordinator at UMN

Amid controversy over school disciplinary proceedings against football players, Tina Marisam began her role as the University of Minnesota’s new Title IX coordinator and director of Office for Equal Opportunity and Affirmative Action this semester.
